ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint contemporary fluid art where experimentation is my play.  Early in my education, I became fascinated with the reactions of organic substances when combined with each other. Whether it was playing with clay as a child, or later on in highschool science, or today while translating my artistic vision to canvas, the spontaneous interaction of colors, movement and flow endlessly intrigue me! Being a fluid artist demands learning about the chemistry of materials and about color interaction. I have focused on using color skillfully in order to use the properties of each pigment to generate an emotional reaction to my imagery.  From my early learning period with fluid art and over these past many years, I have mastered the mechanics and chemistry necessary to control this medium, and I continue to push myself past the boundaries of the expected. I have so much fun in this process! And, the plethora of magical patterns which spill across the canvas and envelop the eye with their vibrant hues and a riot of color is all created without the use of paintbrushes! This, too, is magic. The creative process and mastering new techniques keeps me prolific, but the secret sauce is that I feel like an alchemist transforming these raw materials into imagery that is both compelling and evocative.
